Research

I started by looking at game posters for similar games in the puzzle genre and seeing that way they were designed. I wanted to see how each posters showed off elements of their game and I was interested in the how each poster was colored.

I did a bit of research on the history of poster/box art and saw that a good poster will represent the game truthfully. So breaking down each poster helped me with understanding the composition and what it was trying to highlight about the games

For example Atari had really good box but did not represent the game well, while Activision had good box art that represented the game well

  • Story revolves around plant, which is seen in the poster

  • Main characters are seen

  • The location of the story

  • Colours are bright = Tone of story

  • Main character is in front

  • Setting and Location is in the background

  • Supporting character seen in background = mystery

Development

I started by rendering some ideas that I liked, trying to incorporate elements from my game.

then I change the angle of the camera , my game has an isometric camera and I though that it would be good to have this in the poster. As this would directly represent what my game is like.

I still wanted to see how I was going to placed the objects so I changed the arrangement, until I  got something that I liked.

I brought the renders into procreate and made rough mockups on what the final design might be.

I needed to design the logo for the game, I started by looking at other game logo. I took what I liked from some and made my own logo. I also took my character model and rigged to let me change it position.

After posing the character and adding lights I got this result.
